This document, Camp at Camargo, dated August 29, 1846. Signed "US Grant 2d Lt 4th Infy A.A.G.M." The document is an invoice of "Clothing this day turned over by Lieut. U.S. Grant 4th Infy A.A.G.M. to Lieut. Jo Beaman 4th Infy. Viz 17, Seventeen Pairs Laced Boots." With flattened folds and an uneven lower edge. Faint foxing throughout. Boldly signed by Grant.


At the time, Grant was serving in the Mexican-American War and distinguished himself as a capable and daring soldier. He initially served as regimental quartermaster but was finally given a combat role when he lead a charge at the Battle of Resaca de la Palma on May 9, 1846.
