This Autographed & Matted 4.75x10 Dated August 7, 1786 Document has been Personally Signed by George Washington. This item is 100% Authentic to include a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) / hologram by Beckett Authentication Services. The authenticity can be verified on Beckett Authentication Services website. George Washington Partial Document Signed as President of the Potomac Company. One page, 4.75" x 10", no place [Alexandria, Virginia]; August 7, 1786. A partial manuscript document relating to a payment made on behalf of the Potomac Company. It appears to authorize the receipt of "57 Cords of Wood." Signed "Go: Washington" on verso as president of the company. Countersigned by Thomas Pollock as overseer and John Fitzgerald and George Gilpin as directors. The document is affixed to a mat board with mounting squares but is easily removable. Together with two engravings of Washington and a bronze George Washington "Time Increases His Fame" medal, needs to be reglued if chosen. They are matted to the overall size of 18.5" x 12.25".The Potomac Company was formed in 1785 to help facilitate navigation and trade along the Potomac River for the benefit of both Virginia and Maryland and to aid in western expansion. It was responsible for the Patowmack Canal and several skirting canals, which succeeded in opening the river up for the shipment of bulk goods. The company was taken over by the Chesapeake and Ohio Company in 1828.
